    Re: High School Football

Thats a great question Counts. I remember around 98 Rural Retreat got booted up to D2 for a couple of seasons, but I don't know if East Montgomery, or someone else has become larger than Rural Retreat since that time frame.

On a related note with Lebanon and Battle leaving Region C Div 2 who will be the lucky team that moves from Div1 to Div 2 over there?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, looking at the "early" numbers, Auburn will be the "lucky" school to move up to D2 in Region C...these numbers are not the ones they will use to determine Divisions but they will give you a good idea of what is likely to occur...

    Region C - Division 2
    Grayson Co. 686
    Floyd Co. 631
    Glenvar 626
    Giles 546
    Fort Chiswell 495
    James River 489
    Radford 484
    Patrick Henry 470
    George Wythe 439
    Chilhowie 410
    Auburn 375

    Region C - Division 1
    Rural Retreat 339
    Galax 336
    Northwood 332
    Parry McCluer 324
    Eastern Mont. 320
    Holston 316
    Bland Co. 284
    Covington 277
    Narrows 253
    Bath Co. 247
    Craig Co. 238
    Pocahontas 116

I don't know why any of those four would want to be in Div 1. They wouldn't have any better chance on the state level than JIB has had, the last 2 years JIB could have beaten the Div 2 winner or runner up. I saw both of those games and Burton was better than them, luck with standing they would still have to play the game. The best teams in Group A has been in Div 1 football the last four years not Div. 2.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Things are going to be interesting in Region IV...several changes...of course, Abingdon and Marion are joining the SWD...the River Ridge District is moving to Region IV...hello, Salem, Pulaski Co., Blacksburg, Hidden Valley, Cave Spring, and Christiansburg.

I think the Division 4 football winner will have a good chance at the state level in football now, thanks to the new additions and the fact that Region IV now has schools of "Division 4 size" playing in the Division 4 playoffs.

Division 3 won't be a "cakewalk", as some from other parts of the state describe it, in Region IV now either. Cave Spring, Martinsville, and Tunstall will now be D3 teams since the addition of the RRD. Unfortunately, Tazewell, Grundy, and Graham will be fighting an up-hill battle, as usual, with the enrollment numbers...all are less than 600 students now and even for Tazewell at 576, they are still 190 students less than the next largest D3 school in Region IV. Won't be long before several schools will be "dropping down" in Classification in my opinion.

Here is an "early breakdown" of what the Divisions may look like for next year for all Class AA and Class A schools...

    Re: High School Football

I disagree 05 Haysi IMHO would have beaten Burton

And Clintwood DID beat Burton in 04 and I think Haysi would have as well.

This year 06 Burton was clearly the best team and would have made state (Honaker could have put a scare in them though)

As far as these other teams having a better shot at state than Burton has had Who knows there is no doubt that Reagon B is the new bully on the block but they will get there chance at them (Like I said if this had been in place the last 3 seasons Burtion IMHO would have made there first trip to state this year)

IF all 4 teams do drop Making the playoffs in Div 1 will have just got ALOT tougher (Almost like Div 2 while RC was Div 2 with and 8-2 and 9-1 teams sitting at home) All in all I think on avg the Quality of the Div1 team the Region sends will improve

Of course you would say that - anyone looking back at your posting history can see that you are a huge J.I. Burton fan. You honestly can't believe that you should be taken seriously and without bias in your statements being where you are from and who you support. I seen Giles play this past season and there's no way in h e l l that Burton could have defeated them. Please just think before you speak, you're not doing yourself any service by making the statements you have with the past history of touting Burton as you have.

    Re: High School Football

Lets not get to riled up everyone is a bit bist when they think about "There Team" Burton would no doubt have been a player in Div 1 the last 3 years (ANd would have won it last year no problem)

One thing to think about the Size differances that Burton has seen in the State Games are about the same size differance as Haysi sees in the Reagon D playoff games

    Re: High School Football

You have no idea what you're talking about!! William Campbell thumped Giles----Riverheads beat William Campbell--and Burton played Riverhead to a score of 21-20. I saw Giles at state and believe me-- Campbell, Riverheads, AND BURTON could beat Giles. I'm not saying it would be a blowout. The games could go either way, just whoever plays better that day. Just because you don't like a team doesn't mean you have to belittle their accomplishments.

NO they did not! The score was 35-21 and Giles was up 21-7 and William Campbell came back and won scoring 28 unanswered points due to 5 GILES tunrovers!

Get your facts straight before you tell someone they dont know what their talking about!
